I recently finished reading two books:
The 150M secret: finished 30 Dec 2022
and
The art and business of online writing: finished 09 Jan 2023
Both talk about the importance of writing frequently and online. The second book, which I just finished, talks about how it is important to write somewhere there is already an audience, like Quora. This way you can get real time feedback on what is working and what isn’t, as opposed to a blog where you can write away for years and never really get any feedback (been there, done that, kind of doing it again with this blog)…
The idea is to practice in public, like how musicians do in small venues and in the underground stations, like Ed Sheeran and Tailor Swift. Practicing in public is apparently what separates aspiring writers from professional writers.
The recommendation is to write first, and then use the feedback, likes, comments etc to learn my voice and what people like and build a following. After that, I can come up with a product based on concrete feedback rather than guessing.
So my takeaway into my life from this book is that I will commit to writing one answer on Quora every week and using any feedback to shape my writing.
