A couple of weeks ago, I had my appointment with the orthodontist to receive my Invisalign aligners. At least for the first phase, there won’t be any shaving of my teeth.
They felt awkward at first, and it seemed like it was going to be quite hard to wear them for over a year, a minimum of 22 hours a day. At first I was worried I was going to lose some weight this year because eating becomes a pain. You have to take out the aligners, wash them, eat your food, brush your teeth and put them back in again, and at first taking them out and putting them in was hard. Speaking was a little hard at first too and I felt like I needed to articulate more than normal and I had a bit of a problem with saliva build up.
Two weeks later though, and none of the above is really a problem. You get used to anything. Taking out and putting them back becomes a lot easier when you get used to the technique. I don’t find it hard to speak anymore.
Bea lost weight when she had them though, and if I’m strict about keeping them in as much as possible, I’ll try to only remove them three times for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In that case, I’m hoping to lose some of my stomach fat as a nice bonus to the treatment.
One of my goals was to have nice teeth. It’ll make brushing and flossing afterwards much easier so definitely worth the process. Just a bit of discomfort that’s mostly gone away already anyway.
In terms of effort vs reward, this is definitely something worth doing. I’m believing more and more that the main things that affect our lives are outside of our control, but we can plant many seeds and get the benefits of them later.
Always be planting.
